ARMEX® Blast Media and the ACCUSTRIP SYSTEM® ... packing a punch in the power house

How do you blast equipment inside the generator house ("power house") of a plant? Until recently the answer was an emphatic, "You don't"! But with ARMEX Blast Media and the ACCUSTRIP SYSTEM, you can blast and clean without shutting down the generator house or removing the equipment from its position. That is what local contractor proved to the management of a pulp and paper mill in Texas recently. The maintenance people at the plant were rebuilding a turbine engine and decided they wanted to have the inside of the attached cooling oil tank cleaned while the engine was out of service. Previous cleaning with solvents had not been entirely satisfactory. The solvents did not cut the rust, did not produce a really clean surface, and were very time-consuming to use. Adequate ventilation was also a problem in the enclosed generator house.

During a demonstration at the plant, a plastic enclosure was placed around the oil tank, mainly to contain any water spray or dust that might be generated. (The ARMEX/ACCCUSTRIP process uses very little water --- about one-half gallon per minute). A drain within the oil tank carried the loosened residue, spent media and water into the plant's wastewater treatment facility.

"The inside of that tank was squeaky clean when we finished, and we did the job a whole lot faster than hand cleaning with solvents."

When you consider that "time saved" in plant maintenance almost always translates into greater plant productivity, the ARMEX/ACCUSTRIP process is a clear winner. In this case, the operation of the electronic control boards and other equipment in the powerhouse --- and in the plant --- was uninterrupted during the cleaning process.

For cleaning and depainting, the ARMEX/ACCUSTRIP process really packs a punch in the powerhouse and throughout the plant.
