ARMEX® - Baking Soda Abrasives: Case Studies - Architecture Cleaning & Restoration: Unique Cases
WADU is the Cat's Meow at Animal Shelter
- Application Overview
- An animal shelter for cats and dogs located in the Southeastern United States needed a safe, effective and economical way to clean its indoor pens and make them attractive and odor-free. The pens encompass approximately 4, 320 square feet of surface area.
- Substrate
- The pens are concrete with small mesh, wire hurricane fencing and aluminum fence posts.
- Special Concerns
- Safety for the workers and the animals was the major concern.
- Previous Methods
- The kennels previously were cleaned using a power washer. Following the wash, strong commercial disinfectant was applied manually.
- Project Schedule
- TThe pens are deep cleaned every 28 days. Spot cleaning is done as needed.
The pens are washed in two phases. One side of the kennel is cleaned and rinsed, while the animals are kept on the other side. Once the pens are dry, the animals are moved, so the remaining half of the kennel may be cleaned. Using the WADU® Soluble Media Injector, each side takes approximately two man-hours to clean or a total of four man-hours to clean all of the pens.
- Equipment Specifications
- Cleaning is accomplished using a WADU attached to a standard pressure washer set at 3,000 psi, and the ARMEX® Blast media HydroFlex Formulation.
- Containment
- None
- Results/Benefits Summary
- The customer is pleased with the results. The concrete is thoroughly cleaned and the wire fencing looks like new. In fact, as an accessory to power washing, the WADU has been shown to increase cleaning effectiveness by more than 100 percent compared to water alone.
In addition, the HydroFlex media – an USDA-approved A-1 cleaner – leaves no offensive or harmful chemical residue or odor. As a result, the cleaning process causes no distress to the animals.
here also is a small time savings, as the customer no longer needs to perform a two-step (wash and disinfect) cleaning process. The WADU method is sufficient. Finally, no special waste disposal methods are necessary. Previously, the effluent was landfilled; now, with ARMEX, it is washed right down the onsite drain. This has eliminated the associated handling and storage concerns and extra disposal costs.
